Students Eye Nürburgring Lap Record with Hybrid Prototype

Students from the Technical University of Eindhoven and the Fontys University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands are working on a hybrid prototype with the goal of breaking the overall Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time. Dubbed InMotion IN01, the prototype will have the hard task of breaking the time of 6:11 set by Stefan Bellof at the wheel of a Porsche 956 during Nürburgring 1000 kilometer's qualifying in 1983.

No technical details have been revealed yet but we'll be closely following the development of this ambitious project and we'd love to see the 30 years old record fall!

Audi Wins the 24 Hours of The Nürburgring

This year's 24 Hours of the Nurburgring was a fantastic race as always and poorly covered by the media as always. But that doesn't matter because the fans enjoyed the free but not perfect live stream on Youtube. It seems that nothing has changed since the circuit got recently purchased, which many judge as a good thing.

About the results, it seems that it's a very good year for Audi since the Audi backed Phoenix Team running the R8 LMS Ultra race car #4 won the famous 24 hours race, just a week after the Audi Team Joest won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The leading car with René Rast at the wheel finished in the same lap as the #1 Black Falcon Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 which finished 2.59 behind. The #22 Rowe Racing Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 completed the third march of the podium with a 2 laps gap.

Fourth was the #44 Falken Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R 997. The #7 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and the #20 BMW Z4 GT3 kept battling for the fifth spot until the very last lap for the amusement of the fans. A battle that took end at the Carousel due to traffic.

There was a total of 165 participants in this year's race with 110 of them reaching the chequered flag. The winning car completed 159 Laps, 4,035 km which is an all time new record for a N24 winner. It's also the first time that the winning car covers more than 4,000 Km.

We are already looking forward to next year's edition with a lot of new comers like Bentley and Dodge. You can find the hourly results (or Ergebnisse!) in PDF format here.

The Alfa Romeo 4C Completes the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 8:04

The Alfa 4C officially completed one lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a very respectable 8:04. So apart from being sexy, the 4C is also a very agile machine. Besides all this, it seems that it's very fun to drive too!

As a refresher, the Alfa Romeo 4C is powered by a turbocharged 1.75-liter inline-four engine producing 240 HP and 350 Nm of torque. This allows the Italian beauty which weights just 895 kg (1973 pounds) to complete the 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) sprint in 4.5 seconds and keep accelerating until it reaches 258 km/h (160 mph).
The Porsche 918 Hybrid Spyder could Produce 875 Hp!

Porsche spent too much time developing its hybrid 918 supercar that the originally announced 700 Hp combined output is no longer as impressive as it was. And with the new hypercars from Ferrari and McLaren developing a combined output exceeding 900 Hp, it was time for the German sports car maker to make a riposte, which it did.

So don't you go and think that the Zuffenhausen engineers remained watching their Italian and British competitors with their arms crossed, they actually kept improving their hypbrid supercar and now the rumored output is set to exceed 875 Hp! That would fix things up and make the Porsche 918 a direct competitor to the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari.

Next thing for the three supercars makers: prepare LMP1 efforts for Le Mans based on their three hypercars. Porsche is already preparing its self for 2014. Your turn Ferrari and McLaren.. Let the battle begin!
The Porsche 918 spyder Officially Laps the Nürburgring in 7 minutes 14 seconds

Porsche has released new pictures of the 918 Spyder in black and white Martini Racing Livery lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. We don't have to wonder anymore, the official lap time is 7 minutes 14 seconds. A truly great performance that puts hybrid cars on an another level of competitiveness. As we used to get from Porsche a short documentary video about the accomplishment might be on its way, so stay tuned!

Koenigsegg Agera R Breaks the 400 Km/h barrier at The Ring

The Koenigsegg Agera R is an astonishingly fast machine. After breaking six land speed records now we have the chance to see it break the 400 Km/h (250 mph) barrier in motion at the Nürburgring Nordschleife pit straight. Just in case you are lazy enough to not click this link, here's a reminder of the Agera R's technical specs: Power comes from a bespoke turbocharged V8 producing 1115 Hp and 1200 Nm of torque. The car weights just 1330 kg (2932 pounds). That allows it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. The 300 Km/h barrier is broken in just 14.53 seconds, more than two seconds faster than the Veyron SS.

Now i'm just wondering if the Agera R is capable of improving the recorded top speed of 402 Km/h knowing that the pit straight of the green hell is a little narrow and bumpy...
VIDEO: Drifting in The Snow in a Formula Car with Andreas Gülden

Andreas Gülden is the chief instructor at the Nürburgring Driving Academy who once offered us one of the greatest driving videos around the green hell. In his first video, the instructor took a Formula car for a frightening lap around a very wet Nordschleife track. It was a great demonstration of his drving skills and we all enjoyed it. Apparently, the wave of cold crossing Europe these last days didn't stop him from doing what he does best. And for that, we are thankful! Because now we have the snow version of his video.
Is McLaren Trying to set a new Nürburgring Record with the MP4-12C?

I've spotted this picture a few minutes ago on the Nürburgring Webcam. It seems that the McLaren guys are cooking something for us because they braught an orange McLaren MP4-12C to the Ring. Maybe they are a little bit annoyed by the LFA Nürburgring edition's 7:14 lap time and they think that if an orange machine has to be on top, it must be a McLaren. Stay tuned for more details.
VIDEO: The Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package's Run of 7:14.6

Lexus has finally released the video of the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package's run of 7:14.64 around the circuit of the same name. Even if it's not the fastest lap time of the Nordschleife for a production car, it remains an impressive performance which demonstrates the massive capabilities of the car and the driving skills of Lexus test driver Mr Akira Iida. Watch the video after the jump and enjoy the high res gallery below.

The Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package Laps the Ring in 7:14?

That's the rumor of the day, and apparently it's a matter of time before Lexus officially confirms the record (with video we hope). Seven minutes and fourteen seconds is surely an impressive lap time for a production car especially because it means that the LFA Nürburgring package has beaten the likes of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (7:18) and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (7:19.63). But let's not forget that the Nürburgring package costs an extra 70,000$ to add to an already really high price.
