Epic Supercar Meeting at Assen

Nearly all car enthusiasts love racing video games. And one of the main reasons for that is being able to put together on the same track cars that would never meet in real life.

Except that, when you have the money, everything is possible. Thanks to this group of wealthy car enthusiasts,
now we can watch a friendly race between four of the world's finest hypercars: The Koenigsegg Agera R,
The Porsche 918 Spyder, LaFerrari and the McLaren P1. That's exactly what happened at the Assen Circuit last weekend and you can watch the footage after the jump.

Now I'm pretty sure that these nice people know someone with a special edition Pagani Zonda or a Veyron or two in his possession. So this might bring us something even more special.

Track only McLaren P1 in the Works

According to the latest report from Autocar, McLaren is working on a track only version of the P1 which might simply be called "McLaren P1 Track". This even more extreme version of the hybrid hypercar will feature an aggressive aero package, a new suspension as well as a reduced weight. The power train might receive some upgrades too even though 900+ Hp sounds enough. The P1 Track will be the direct competitor of, you've guessed it, the upcoming LaFerrari XX.

Papaya Orange McLaren P1 spotted in Dubai [VIDEO]

This is not a surprise since we already know that a big number of McLaren P1's are heading up there. But the part we love the most is the Papaya Orange paint job which looks surprisingly good on the British hypercar.

Just in case you forgot, the McLaren P1 is powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 combined with an electric motor to offer a total output of 903 Hp. Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) is completed in 2.8 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds and 0 to 300 km/h is completed in 16.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 Km/h (217 mph).

McLaren Confirms "Sub-7 minutes" Ring Time with Style

I have two theories when it comes to McLaren refusing to confirm/specify the ring time of its P1 hypercar: 1) McLaren gives too much importance to Nürburgring lap times but refuses to admit it. So they released an epic clip showing that their hybrid hypercar is capable of a sub-7 minutes lap time to silence the doubters. 2) McLaren is so obsessed with the Nürburgring lap time that they refuse to release their official lap time before knowing what LaFerrari has achieved.

Now time for a little bit of math: the Nürburgring Nordschleife has an exact length of 20.81 kilometers (12.93 miles). If we associate this to McLaren's claim of an average speed that is faster than 178.637 Km/h (111 mph). We will have a lap time of less than 0.1164 hours which in terms of minutes is equal to 6.98 which means that the lap time is less than 6:59.375.

In the meantime, Porsche confirmed its 6:57 lap time long ago and has now moved on. Epic. Epic video after the jump.
Report: McLaren P1 Sold Out

It's not really a surprise since McLaren was originally planning to produce as many as 500 units but ended up producing 375 after some clients expressed their concern about the exclusivity of the hybrid hypercar.

As a refresher, the McLaren P1 is powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 combined with an electric motor to offer a total output of 903 Hp. The British hypercar is able to hit 100 Km/h in 2.8 seconds, the 0 to 200 Km/h in 6.8 seconds and 0 to 300 Km/h in 16.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 Km/h.

It also might have lapped the Nürburgring in 6:47 but it seems that McLaren have no intention of making this time official. The British supercar maker has a different point of view when it comes to the race to the fastest ring lap time. But we're sure McLaren will find a way to make the lap time confirmed "unofficially" (or did they already do it?).
The McLaren P1 Makes its First Official Top Gear Appearance [VIDEO]

We all know that Jeremy Clarkson got a drive in the almighty McLaren P1 at the Spa Circuit in Belgium. And we all can't wait until the next series of Top Gear begins to see what the P1 was able to achieve at the Top Gear test track. But for those of you who can't wait, the car is already featured in this month's Top Gear issue and the article is written in Jezza's own words. Best quote: "The McLaren P1 makes everything else look like the past".

Here's glimpse of Clarkson's drive.. stay tuned for more.
McLaren P1 Stretches its Legs on the Highway [VIDEO]

With the first McLaren P1's already delivered. The first on board videos started circulating across the web. This clip features a McLaren Orange P1 that was wrapped in a transparent protection film. The high adrenaline rate generated by the British hypercar associated with its astonishing accelerating capacities are clearly behind some of the risky maneuvers executed by the driver. Video after the jump.

The McLaren P1 might Have Lapped The Ring in 6:47

McLaren P1 prototype at the Nürburgring (picture taken from an older testing session)

This is exciting news for the McLaren P1 fans! The McLaren P1 has reportedly lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:47, that's exactly the time achieved by the track focused, not road legal Pagani Zonda R three years ago! It's also 10 seconds faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder and 17 seconds faster than their deceiving unofficial time of 7:04 posted last month. The time has not been made official by McLaren yet but the attempt was filmed and posted to youtube and you can watch it after the jump.
First McLaren P1 Delivered

The first McLaren P1 has finally been delivered to a British customer at McLaren's headquarters in Woking. The hybrid supercar is painted in Volcano Yellow and pumps out a massive 903 Hp thanks to a twin-Turbo V8 engine working along with an electric motor.

For the occasion, McLaren confirmed the performance figures for the British hypercar. Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) is completed in 2.8 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds and 0 to 300 km/h is completed in 16.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 Km/h (217 mph). But there's something that the P1 does even faster than accelerating: braking.

The P1 needs just 30 meters (99 feet) to stop from 100 km/h to zero and it'll take her just 2.9 seconds. It'll need 4.5 seconds and 116 meters (380 feet) to stop from 200 km/h. Finally, it'll need 6.2 seconds and 246 meters (806 feet) to stop from 300 km/h to zero. In other words, in 23 seconds you can sprint up to 350 Km/h and be back to zero. Mind blowing.

I am not going to share any fuel consumption numbers, you can find them somewhere else. This is a 900 Hp supercar, it's supposed to be fast as hell and eat dinosaurs for dinner. Now can you give us the Nürburgring lap time please?
7:04 is not Good Enough for McLaren

The successful British supercar maker reportedly won't confirm the 7:04 time of its newest P1 hybrid hypercar around the Nürburgring. The Woking based firm that once built the record breaking McLaren F1 does not seem to be satisfied by a lap time that is not sub 7 minutes which was their initial target.

We already know that Porsche achieved an unofficial time of 7:14 with their 918 Spyder, but we know it's not Porsche that worries McLaren at the moment... It's Ferrari with their LaFerrari. And knowing that McLaren is already suffering in F1 this season, being beaten by Ferrari both on the road and on the race track won't do them good publicity..
McLaren Releases More Pictures of the P1 at Sakhir

McLaren released another set of stunning shots of the P1 taken by the talented GFWilliams. As a refresher, the McLaren P1 is powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 combined with an electric motor to offer a total output of 903 Hp. The British hypercar is able to hit 100 Km/h in less than 3 seconds, the 0 to 200 Km/h in 7 seconds and 0 to 300 Km/h in 17 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 Km/h.

Even with those astonishing numbers, the P1 has already been beaten by its main rival, LaFerrari. But will it be the same on the track?

McLaren P1 Officially Revealed

McLaren has officially revealed the P1 hypercar. And apart from the yellow paint job and the now transparent rear grille, the car is pretty much the same as the original concept car. But the more interesting part certainly lies under the rear bonnet.

With the Instant Power Assist System (IPAS) ON (176 Hp of additional pure electric power available from 0 rpm), the P1 is able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than three seconds, the 200 km/h (124 mph) bar is then demolished in seven seconds, before the beast reaches 300 km/h (186 mph) another ten seconds later. Top speed is electronically limited at 350 km/h (217 mph).

The P1's beating heart is a twin-turbocharged version of the MP4-12C's 3.8-liter V8 that now develops 726 Hp and 720 Nm of torque. That means that the combined output is equal to 903 Hp. The car is also able to travel on electricity alone for 20Km (12.4 miles). Another feature is a DRS system similar to that used in F1 that allows the car to reduce drag by 23 percent at high speeds. Both the IPAS and the DRS can activated via steering wheel mounted buttons.

The upcoming McLaren P1 hypercar will be limited to only 375 units, which means it's even more exclusive than its rival from Ferrari, the F150. More pictures of the P1 in the gallery below and stay tuned for more..

McLaren Reveals the First Pictures of The P1's interior!

McLaren revealed the first pictures of the upcoming P1's interior and it's pretty much as we expected. Nothing to distract you from the task of driving... The interior of the McLaren P1 hypercar also benefits from the extensive use of carbon fiber for further weight reduction. The bucket seats are optimized to offer the best driving position with maximum visibility. Each of them has an overall weight of just 10.5 kg! The production version of the McLaren P1 will unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month, along with the new Ferrari F150. It's going to be a busy month so stay tuned!

Watch the McLaren P1 Being Driven on a Race Track and Spitting Flames!

Ever since they publicly introduced the McLaren P1 at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the guys at Woking kept working hard to push the McLaren P1 to its limits. To make our waiting less painful, McLaren released a video of a camouflaged version of the P1 being tested on a race track. And for the first time we get to hear what the new hypercar's V8 sounds like. Unlike the prototype seen in Paris, the plastic rear grille was removed and now we can see the taillights though we're not sure it's the final look of the car.

With the McLaren P1, the Ferrari F150 and the Porsche 918, this year looks really promising for car fans... Video after the jump.

Paris 2012: The McLaren P1 in the flesh

During our visit to the McLaren stand at the Paris Motor Show, we had a little chat with Mr Francis Falconer, Northern European Regional Sales Manager at McLaren Automotive and he gave us some interesting information about the P1 hypercar. The most interesting figure is the amount of down force that the car is able to generate at high speeds. The guys at McLaren say that the P1 is able to deliver 600 Kg of down force, similar to a GT3 racer.

When I asked about the top speed of the F1 successor, Mr Francis responded that the P1 was developed to be one the fastest and most rewarding cars on the track. During the development phase, the McLaren engineers focused mainly on acceleration, grip and down force. When I asked if it would have a higher top speed than the McLaren F1, he responded that their goal was not to have the highest top speed but to have the fastest machine on track.

As for the powertrain, the guys at McLaren remain tight lipped. And the grille you see at the back of the car will be "transparent" in the final product. Expect the production version of the P1 to be unveiled at Geneva 2013. In the meantime, enjoy the high res gallery below.

McLaren Releases new Photos of the P1

McLaren has released new pictures of its F1 successor but no official numbers have been released yet. The most noticeable element that we get to see in these new shots is the huge active rear wing. We won't have to wait too much longer to get more details as the P1 will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show tomorrow. So stay tuned!
