First Formula E "ePrix" ends with Huge Crash

Sorry for the lack of updates. Changes will come soon I hope...

But for now here's your first huge crash that occured in the last lap of the first ever Formula E race that took place today on Bejing. We're not sure what Nicolas Prost was trying to do right there and we're not sure why he looked right while it was clear that if Nick was going to try an overtake it would have been definitely on the left. It was all for the Benefit of Lucas di Grassi who will be remembered for clinching the win at the first ever Formula E race, which by the way is called "ePrix".

Next race will take place in Malaysia on November 22nd.

Spark-Renault SRT_01E Formula E Hits the track [VIDEO]

The Spark-Renault SRT_01E Formula E race car is so complicated that it has got an underscore in its name. The FIA has finally conducted the first track test for its strongly backed Formula E Series that is set to begin in 2014. The test was described as successful even though during this deployment step, the car was only using quarter of its maximum power which is the equivalent of 50KW (68 Hp).

The Spark-Renault SRT_01E has got a Dallara-designed monocoque chassis and is powered by an electric motor producing 200 KW (270 hp) that was developped by McLaren. It promises a 0 to 100 Km/h (62 mph) time of 3 seconds and the top speed is limited to 225 Km/h (140 mph).

Test driver and Lucas Di Grassi wanted to reassure the drivers that the Formula E is very fun to drive even with quarter of its real power. Well sure it is since electric motors provide massive torque even at low speeds. But what about the noise absence problem? How is the FIA going to reassure the fans?

video and press release after the jump.

First Pictures of the FIA Formula E Prototype

The FIA has finally unveiled its plans of launching a championship for electric Formula cars. As you can see in the picture above, the development of the first prototype has reached very advanced stages and the series will become a reality as soon as 2014.

There's a reason why I totally support this series: Now that the FIA has its own electric Formula championship, it might stop them from trying to make Formula One greener and more efficient. In that case, F1 remains the pinnacle of motorsports but we also have an experimental series that will serve as a laboratory for future road going cars and will help electric car companies to get involved in racing and get more exposure!
