IND distribution's Atlantis E92 M3 introduced at the BimmerFest

IND distribution introduced their latest creation at the BimmerFest, the Atlantis E92 M3. A road legal track focused version in the same spirit of the astonishing M3 GTS. The car won the first place trophy in the "Best modified BMW" competition. So let's have closer look at it.

Performance upgrades include an ESS supercharger kit with 6.5 psi of boost pressure, a modified Akrapovic exhaust system and in order to be more suitable for track use, the double clutch transmission software had to be reprogrammed. The engine now develops a healthy 522 Hp.

The more interesting part however, is the body work with an extensive use of carbon fiber especially in the interior with the ERICSSON door panels and the complete rear interior section which, just like the M3 GTS doesn't include seats. The car is also fitted with fantastic BBS F1 wheels and Brembo brakes.

Putting it all together in time for the BimmerFest was a real challenge for the guys behind this beautiful creation, a challenge made ever harder due to supplier issues. But their work has finally payed off. "The Blue Max" is here and it looks good.

VIDEO: Audi R8 LMS driven by Autocar

I know, this is nothing new. But hey, this isn't the place to go if you're looking for automotive news! But if you are looking for a good dose of engineering perfection here it is, and it's brought to you by the well respected UK car magazine AUTOCAR. This time Steve sutcliffe takes you for a spin around the Silverstone circuit with the Audi R8 LMS GT3 racer.

The Audi R8 LMS uses the same Lamborghini V10 that you can find on the road going R8 V10 but in order to meet the regulations of GT3 races, the car has 18 Hp less. If you are willing to participate in a GT3 race or maybe next year's 24 hours of the Nurburgring, the R8 LMS is yours for 300k £ otherwise you can still watch this video to get a glimpse of what it feels like, no power sliding this time, but hey that's not the fastest way to go round corners.

I came across this nice video filmed and edited by Magnús B. and Sergio M. The Video features an ultra lowered Nissan 350Z fitted with a fantastic set of golden RAYS rims. The theme of the video is: "low is a life style" and judging by how low the car is, you are surely going to change some of your driving habits if you are planning to use this car often. Enjoy the video and keep watching till the end... ouch!

A one of a kind supercar: The Brabus T65 RS Vanish

By introducing the Vanish, BRABUS wants to demonstrate once again that there's always a place to improve an already extreme car whether in term of performance or in term of styling. The Brabus T65 RS Vanish is a one off version based on the already rare and extreme Mercedes-Benz AMG SL65 Black Series.

While the original Black Series develops 670 Hp, the T65 RS produces a scary 800 Hp thanks to bigger turbos. In fact, in order to fit the engine bay, the bonnet had to be slightly modified in a not very convincing way. See the pictures below and judge by your self..

There is no word yet about the performance figures but you can imagine what this car would be capable of knowing that the "standard" black series goes from naught to 100 KM/h (62 mph) in 3.8 s and is electronically limited to a top speed of 320 km/h (200 mph) and knowing that its name is "Vanish"...

This year's edition of the 24 hours of the Nürburgring saw the returning of BMW Motorsport as a major force with the number 25 E92 M3 GT2 car driven by Jorg Müller, Augusto Farfus, Uwe Alzen and Pedro Lamy winning the 24 hours race after 154 laps round the green hell. In second position comes the number 43 Ferrari F430 GTC followed by the number 97 Audi R8 LMS from Team Phoenix Audi.

The number 76 beautiful black and white BMW Z4 GT3 from team Need For Speed managed to complete the 24 hours race in a fantastic fourth position while the second factory backed M3 GT2 came seventh.

The biggest dissappoitment of the race came from Porsche and more precisely, the number 9 Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid race car which was on its way to give a new meaning to the word "Hybrid" by winning the 24 hours race in its very first major outing. Unfortunately, at 1h51min from the chequered flag the orange and white KERS equipped Porsche was obliged to stop and make the 24 hours crown a gift for the Number 25 E92 M3 GT2 which was running at the same lap and making outrageous qualifying laps to catch the seemingly untouchable Porsche. Having managed to make 142 laps, the Number 9 Porsche was classified seventeenth.

Unlike last year, the Lexus LF-A managed to finish the 24 Hours race without trouble in a respectable 19th place. The Aston Martin Rapide came 35th and the RCZ Peugeots respectively 51th and 82th. You can find the full ranking table here.

This year's edition of the 24 hours of the Nürburgring saw the participation of 197 cars and more than 200,000 spectators. And that, ladies and gentelmen was my coverage of the 24 Hours race as an internet spectator.

News: All three Nürburgring courses will be available in Gran Turismo 5

Sony has announced that all the Nürburgring courses will be included in Gran Turismo 5. It means that you will be able to race in two new circuits in addition to the Nordschleife: The Gran Prix circuit and the 24 hours circuit (with includes the Nordschleife and the majority of the GP circuit) This is good news for all Gran Turismo fans (and for me).

Judging by the pictures below, you can see how far the Polyphony Digital team went with the details. The graphics are just stunning and visitors of the 24 Hours race at the Nürburgring this weekend will be the first to be able able to try these new circuits in the special Gran Turismo demo stations. But if you're watching the race on streaming just like me, you still can enjoy these screens.

Picture from last year's race (belongs to its owner)

Every car enthusiast round the world should not be missing one of the greatest racing events of the year. The 2010 24H-Rennen Nürburgring, Nordschleife starts tomorrow May 15th at 15.00 (local time). In this year's edition, a lot of new participants like a nearly stock Aston Martin Rapide, Two beautiful Peugeots RCZ coupés, the new Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid which already proved to be as fast as the other GT3's but more economic, a potential winner? maybe...

Other contenders include the returning Lexus LF-A, maybe to erase last year's race from our memories? The new Z4 GT3 race car, a bunch of M3's, R8 LMS's, vipers, Ford GT's, Alpina B6's (pictured above), Sciroccos and pretty much everything from V10's to 4 cylinders, from prepared race cars to nearly stock cars, all in one circuit for 24 Hours and thousands of corners. Don't miss the race! And as was the case last year, you'll probably be able to watch the race online in its official website.

Racing legend: Porsche 917

Porsche 917K Gulf

In the 2010 Geneva Motor Show two months ago, Porsche unveiled a new concept car: the 918 spyder, a hybrid sportscar with a look towards the future and an undisputable link with the marque's most successful models. Porsche says, the 918 holds some of its design cues from the Carrera GT and the most outstanding race car of the last century: the Porsche 917.

Porsche 917K Gulf

The birth of this spectacular looking race car, should i remind you, goes back to fourty years. But even today, it's still one of the most admired race cars. And even after fourty years, it still holds the record of the fastest Le Mans 24 hours race ever with an average speed of 222 Km/h (138 mph) and a total distance covered of 5,335 Kilometers (3315 miles) in the 1971 edition. It also has recorded the highest top speed of 387 Km/h (240 mph) at the Hunaudières straight (6km (3.72 miles) long out of 13.329 (8.28 miles)).

The 917 racer was mainly designed to allow Porsche to finally win the legendary 24 Hours race. Which it did two years in a row (1970 and 1971). And those were the first two victories out of a total of thirteen, making Porsche the most successful automaker at Le Mans.

The 917, as successful it was, hides a bad souvenir behind its back. In the 1969 Le Mans edition, British driver John Woolfe lost his life after crashing his Porsche 917 No.10 on lap 1 of the 24 hours race. This tragedy, along with similar ones in racing history reminds us that this is one of the most dangerous sports. So maybe we should think twice before blaming safety rules "excessive" reinforcement.

Even if the Porsche 917K's ("K" stands for "Kurzheck" in German) most famous racing colors are the JWA gulf racing livery's red and blue. The teams that actually won the 1970 and 1971 Le Mans editions are Porsche Salzburg (car No. 23) with its white and red livery in 1970 and Martini Racing (car No. 22) a year later.

Technically speaking, the car had very particular twelve cylinder engine which by the way, was Porsche's first rwelve cylinder engine. The engine could be described as a V12 at 180 degrees judging by the shape of its crankshaft which is more common to V engines. Another particularity is the driving position which was moved forward compared to the Porsche 908 and that was due to the bigger engine. In fact, the driver's feet were beyond the front axle. You can clearly notice this detail when looking at the pictures. The weight of the spaceframe chassis was jsut 42 Kg (93 Ib) thanks to the use of exotic materials.

Porsche 917 variants

917 variants (from left to right): 1) 917/30, 2) 917K (Martini Racing), 3) 917/20 (known as "pig car" in this livery), 4) 917 LH ("lang Heck" or long tail), 5) 917 K (Gulf racing), 6) 917 PA Spyder.

Did you know about this? Alfa Romeo 164 Pro Car

The Alfa Romeo 164 Pro Car is one of the wildest race cars created by Alfa in 1988 in order to participate into a support series for Formula 1. The idea was to build cars that aren't very different from Formula 1's single seaters from a technical point of view but with a road car appearence. The result is a central mounted Alfa Romeo built V10 beast with totally removable body parts. The Alfa 164 Pro Car was developped in cooperation with the Brabham F1 Team and had more than 600 Hp. This superpowerful sedan shares nothing with the standard Alfa 164 road car but the looks. It is believed that the 164 Pro Car was capable of reaching 349 Km/h (217 mph) and judging by its power and shape, it's totally understandable.

Unfortunately no other manufacturer was willing to invest in such a project which left Alfa Romeo the only team with a car ready to run. Therefore the series was cancelled. It would have been interesting to see what BMW and Mercedes-Benz would come up with.

This is what a perfect exhaust note sounds like

After driving the 599XX, Autocar driver Steve Sutcliffe shows you what it feels like having the best job in the world by driving the road legal version, the 599 GTO. I can't find the adequate words to describe this car, what do you think of: Engineering Perfection? The sound of the car is just another proof that nothing can beat a prancing horse's exhaust note. Just listen.

Koenigsegg trevita

If you think the koenigsegg CCX wasn't powerful enough with its 806 Hp, the Trevita (CCXR) pushes the boundaries of power even further to reach a massive 1,018 Hp. This means it has a weight to power ratio of 1.26 kg/hp which helps it accelerate from 0 to 100 Km/h (62 mph) in less than 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 400+ Km/h (250+ mph). However Koenigsegg says in its official website that in order to reach that speed, the rear wing has to be removed. Well, i wouldn't recommend that at all knowing that the CCX with "only" 806 Hp has already been described as a very dangerous car (most of you know the story of the top Gear wing).

In addition to the power upgrade The CCXR has also been the subject of some aerodynamic enhancement which now help the car have a down force of 350 Kg at 250 Km/h. However it keeps the same weight of 1280 Kg just like the CCX which is already a very light car.

After the Bugatti Veyron, Jay Leno gets his hands this time on the rare swedish Beauty. How rare? Well, "trevita" in swedish means "Three whites", that's how rare the Trevita is. The video is very entertaining as always, enjoy!

The new Citroën Metropolis concept is a pleasure for the eyes

Citroën Metropolis Concpt

Citroën has released this fantastic looking concept car named Metropolis to continue its tradition of making innovative and great looking concept cars. Despite being an oversized car in the likes of the Audi A8 and the BMW 7 series long wheel base versions, the Metropolis has a very smooth silhouette with some design cues that remind us the GT by Citroën Concept car like the headlights and the rims. The concept features some exquisite details like the antagonist doors, a concave rear window, a very agressive front grille as well as a sporty rear end. A total sucess in my opinion.

Citroën Metropolis Concept

Happily, in the last few years, some very interesting Citroën concepts found their way to production without too much modifications, like the outrageous GT By Citroën which is rumored to be produced in a very small number. Hopefully this stunning concept will find its way to production as well and why not a smaller, sportier version of it.
