400th Veyron Sold, Has The Longest Name Yet

Bugatti recently sold its 400th Veyron out of the 450 units planned for production (300 coupes and 150 Roadsters). No one could have imagined that Volkswagen could produce as much Veyrons knowing that they are still loosing colossal amounts of money in each one they build. But when you see that some wealthy Cheikh owns five for him alone, 450 units is no longer a difficult target.

The 400th Veyron is a Grand Sport Vitesse Jean-Pierre Wimille Edition. By now, even my grand pa is able to tell how much Hp the Veyron Grand Sport has. But just in case you were not amongst us during the last ten years, here's a refresher (and here too if you'd like to see good old Jay Leno driving it). So who's Mr Jean Prierre Wimille you'd ask?

Mr Jean-Pierre Wimille is a legendary Bugatti race driver (and a member of the French Resistance during World War II) who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1937 at the wheel of a Bugatti 57G Tank and in 1939 at the wheel of a Bugatti 57C Tank. Back when drivers had their faces covered with smoke when they got out of their race cars. If you are interested by the story of this legend, Bugatti have a dedicated page in their web site for him.

Volkswagen still lose €4.6 million on each Veyron they make

Volkswagen reportedly loses a whopping 4,617,500 euros (6,242,860 US Dollars) on each Bugatti Veyron they sell according to this chart made by The Economist

With a price tag of $2 million, the Bugatti Veyron is not a commercial success but it's a living proof of the technological excellency achieved by the German automaker. Volkswagen believes that this is much more important in the long term than the few millions they lose on each Veyron and that's why they keep making it.

Love it or not, the Bugatti Veyron is already a legend.

Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Set World Record for Fastest open Top car

No, I'm not going to post anything about the new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse setting a new world record for the fastest open top car with a top speed of 408.84 Km/h (254.04 mph). I won't tell you either that this top speed war is getting ridiculous and that Ferrari and McLaren did the right thing by not taking part in it. There's something else I won't tell you, Bugatti will produce eight World Record Editions which will cost 1,990,000 Euro each.

Bugatti Veyron SuperSport: a 434 km/h (270 mph) capable machine

Now have a seat, this is gonna be a little scary. The long rumored even more powerful version of the Bugatti Veyron is here! What's more powerful than 1,001 Hp? you'd ask. Bugatti answers: 1,200 Hp. Thanks to the further use of exotic materials, the car now weights 50 Kilograms less, which doesn't sound like a lot compared to nearly two ton weight of the car. However the W16 powered beast is now capable of reaching 434 Km/h (270 mph)!

Other mind buggling performance figures include a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of 2.5 seconds and a 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph)sprint in less than 15 seconds.

Some of the most noticeable exterior modifications are the black and orange paint job, modificated front bumper and side skirts and a hugely modificated rear end with of course the active rear wing. While that rear end doesn't look really convincing, it surely is the way it is for aerodynamic reasons. With only 30 units to be produced, the SuperSport is set to end the production run of the Bugatti Veyron before a potential replacement comes in.
