2010 GT Awards Winner: Mark Stielow's Custom 1969 Chevrolet Camaro

Every year at the SEMA show, Kazunori Yamauchi, the father of the Gran Turismo series gives the GT award to his favourite customized car of the show. This year the honors go to Mark Stielow's custom 1969 Chevrolet Camaro which of course means that his car will also be included in Gran Turismo 5. Since the game is already on its way to being released to the public, this car might be available as downloadable content.



Mark Stielow's Custom 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is the first Camaro fitted with the 6.2L LS9 V8 engine from GM performance parts. The engine has been tuned to produce 700 Hp but that's not the end of the story. The car might look like a classic Camaro from the outside but under this classic body there is a whole new lot of changes including carbon-ceramic Brembo ZR1 Corvette disc brakes, C6 Corvette front suspension on the Art Morrison front subframe, front spoiler relocator kit, trick Rick's stainless gas tank, and coolers for the transmission and rearend.

SEMA 2010: Chevrolet Brings Two Track Focused Variants of the Corvette and the Camaro

For the 2010 edtion of the SEMA Motor Show, Chevrolet has brought not less than 6 new modified versions of its Camaro and Corvette sports cars. Some of these modifications are purely cosmetic while others include some performance upgrades. But the most interesting models are definitely the Camaro SSX and the Corvette Z06X, two track focused versions of the V8 powered cars.

To get it ready for the track, the new Corvette has been equipped with a SCCA (Sport Car Club of America) approved roll cage and an adjustable rear wing and suspension systems. The weight of the car has been reduced by the installation of racing seats and the use of special materials like a carbon fiber hood and a polycarbonate rear window. There is no doubt about it, the Corvette Z06X has the Dodge Viper ACR-X as its main target and its weapon will be the LS7 7.0L V8 engine.


The Camaro SSX also has benefited from a similar treatment by considerably reducing its weight thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber in parts like the hood, doors and trunk of the car. From a performance point of view, the LS3 6.2L V-8 from the Camaro SS now develops more than 500 Hp thanks to Chevrolet Performance Parts upgrades including new camshaft, cylinder heads and dry-sump oiling system.
