McLaren P1 Officially Revealed

McLaren has officially revealed the P1 hypercar. And apart from the yellow paint job and the now transparent rear grille, the car is pretty much the same as the original concept car. But the more interesting part certainly lies under the rear bonnet.



With the Instant Power Assist System (IPAS) ON (176 Hp of additional pure electric power available from 0 rpm), the P1 is able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than three seconds, the 200 km/h (124 mph) bar is then demolished in seven seconds, before the beast reaches 300 km/h (186 mph) another ten seconds later. Top speed is electronically limited at 350 km/h (217 mph).

The P1's beating heart is a twin-turbocharged version of the MP4-12C's 3.8-liter V8 that now develops 726 Hp and 720 Nm of torque. That means that the combined output is equal to 903 Hp. The car is also able to travel on electricity alone for 20Km (12.4 miles). Another feature is a DRS system similar to that used in F1 that allows the car to reduce drag by 23 percent at high speeds. Both the IPAS and the DRS can activated via steering wheel mounted buttons.

The upcoming McLaren P1 hypercar will be limited to only 375 units, which means it's even more exclusive than its rival from Ferrari, the F150. More pictures of the P1 in the gallery below and stay tuned for more..

McLaren Reveals the First Pictures of The P1's interior!

McLaren revealed the first pictures of the upcoming P1's interior and it's pretty much as we expected. Nothing to distract you from the task of driving... The interior of the McLaren P1 hypercar also benefits from the extensive use of carbon fiber for further weight reduction. The bucket seats are optimized to offer the best driving position with maximum visibility. Each of them has an overall weight of just 10.5 kg! The production version of the McLaren P1 will unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month, along with the new Ferrari F150. It's going to be a busy month so stay tuned!

Watch the McLaren P1 Being Driven on a Race Track and Spitting Flames!

Ever since they publicly introduced the McLaren P1 at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the guys at Woking kept working hard to push the McLaren P1 to its limits. To make our waiting less painful, McLaren released a video of a camouflaged version of the P1 being tested on a race track. And for the first time we get to hear what the new hypercar's V8 sounds like. Unlike the prototype seen in Paris, the plastic rear grille was removed and now we can see the taillights though we're not sure it's the final look of the car.

Paris 2012: The McLaren P1 in the flesh

During our visit to the McLaren stand at the Paris Motor Show, we had a little chat with Mr Francis Falconer, Northern European Regional Sales Manager at McLaren Automotive and he gave us some interesting information about the P1 hypercar. The most interesting figure is the amount of down force that the car is able to generate at high speeds. The guys at McLaren say that the P1 is able to deliver 600 Kg of down force, similar to a GT3 racer.

When I asked about the top speed of the F1 successor, Mr Francis responded that the P1 was developed to be one the fastest and most rewarding cars on the track. During the development phase, the McLaren engineers focused mainly on acceleration, grip and down force. When I asked if it would have a higher top speed than the McLaren F1, he responded that their goal was not to have the highest top speed but to have the fastest machine on track.

As for the powertrain, the guys at McLaren remain tight lipped. And the grille you see at the back of the car will be "transparent" in the final product. Expect the production version of the P1 to be unveiled at Geneva 2013. In the meantime, enjoy the high res gallery below.

McLaren Releases new Photos of the P1

McLaren has released new pictures of its F1 successor but no official numbers have been released yet. The most noticeable element that we get to see in these new shots is the huge active rear wing. We won't have to wait too much longer to get more details as the P1 will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show tomorrow. So stay tuned!

McLaren Reveals the P1 Ahead Of its Paris Debut

Ladies and gentlemen, history is about to be made. McLaren has finally revealed the first shots of its highly anticipated F1 successor. At first sight, the new McLaren hypercar looks surprisingly compact! But we'll have to wait and see it in person at the Paris motor show in less than two weeks. Unfortunately, no information about the powertrain have been published yet. But McLaren Automotive's Managing Director Antony Sheriff states: 'Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit'.

McLaren MP4-12C GT3: The Ultimate Flame Thrower?

The McLaren MP4-12C is one of the greatest supercars on the market today. Some say, it's too much calculated, too much "clinical" but we all know you can't blame someone for that! But one thing is sure, its GT3 variant has much more character especially after you see it in this video. Apparently the MP4-12C GT3 loves to throw flames, maybe it's her way to intimidate its competitors. Sometimes it goes wrong like this, but most of the time it gives us some spectacular shots! McLaren's Surprise X-1 Concept Makes its Appearence at Pebble Beach

McLaren unveiled their surprise concept car called the X-1. And the least thing you can say about it is that it looks absolutely stunning. Underneath that classy bodywork lies the same structure and engine from the MP4-12C. Even though there seems to be no apparent common ground between the two models, you can notice that it has the same exhausts layout as the more conventional coupe. The X-1 Concept is in reality a one-off created for a very special anonymous McLaren client. The project started three years ago, even before the official launch of the MP4-12C model.

From the exterior, the car has its own personality but it also takes inspiration from some iconic cars like the 1961 Facel Vega, a 1953 Chrysler D'Elegance Ghia, a 1959 Buick Electra, a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K and a 1971 Citroën SM. The interior is finished in Harissa Red Nappa leather. It's interesting because here in Tunisia, Harissa is a sauce based on red hot peppers. That doesn't really suit the 'classical elegance' of its body work but it might be perfect to describe the car's unbelievable performance.

With the X-1 Concept, McLaren automotive has demonstrated that it was able to create more organic looking machines. Even though the X-1 Concept is based on an MP4-12C, it has a totally different bodywork. That would be the fourth road going model from McLaren and it leaves us wanting more!
