This Week on Jay Leno's Garage: The McLaren MP4-12C Can-Am Edition

Jay Leno doesn't miss a chance to interview the designers of his favourite supercars. But it's always a pleasure to listen to his simplified analysis of supercar features. This time he stops by the McLaren stand at Pebble Beach to meet Frank Stephenson, McLaren's Chief Designer and have a little chat about the McLaren MP4-12C Spyder and the Track focused MP4-12C Can-Am Edition. Video after the jump.

McLaren MP4-12C Can-Am Edition Concept

McLaren introduced the MP4-12C Can-Am Edition Concept based on the its GT3 racer. The MP4-12C's 3.8-Liter V8 has been tuned to produce 630 Hp. That's a 14 Hp increase over the road going model. The weighs just 1,200kg (2645.5lbs which promises outstanding accelerations. I'm not sure what are McLaren's racing plans for the Can-Am edition as for now this is just a concept that comes as a tribute to McLaren's successful days at the Canadian-American Sports Car Championship. McLaren describe it as the 'ultimate track car' so maybe McLaren has now its own alternative to the likes of the Ferrari 599XX and the Pagani Zonda R, though in terms of power, they do not belong to the same league... The McLaren MP4-12C Can-Am edition will makes its debut at this weekend's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
