2012 Sauber C31 revealed: The thinnest nose yet

It's a great day for F1 fans. As the beginning of the season approaches, all the teams have started to take wraps off their 2012 contenders. The first testing session starts tomorrow at Jerez, and all the teams will be there for a first shakedown for their machines. Just like, Ferrari, Lotus, Caterham and Force India, the Sauber C31 has a stepped nose designed to avoid the lowering of the whole front end. This solution allows to avoid reducing the height of the suspension rods which will cause a handicap in handling and also have an impact on the airflow underneath the car's body. There is a particularity with the nose of this C31 however, it is incredibly thin. It'll be interesting to see how these things will behave on a crash...

The 2010 Formula One World Championship contenders

2010 Lotus T127

With the unveiling of the long awated lotus T127 with its beautiful classic Lotus Racing livery, the 2010 formula One grid began to show up with already 22 cars ready to go in Bahrain. This is surely one of the most anticipated Formula One seasons since 2000. With a mixture of young talents and old veterans as well as four new teams and a returning seven times world champion willing to take the the crown again, it is going to be a very interesting battle.

After seing the Brawn GP team come out from the ashes of the former Honda F1 team to make the surprise and take both crowns in 2009, this year we have more favourites than any other season in modern F1.

It is also believed that banning refueling will make races more exciting and will allow more actual overtaking on the track. So now we have fuel tanks that can carry up to 250 liters. This lead to a slightly different design of the cars especially when it comes to the wheel base which is now a little bit longer.

No more talking, now let's have a look at the 2010 championship contenders!

Sauber Mercedes C11 01

In the early 90's, Mercedes-Benz and Peter Sauber came up with the C11, a brilliant successor to the already remarkable Sauber C9 which won the 1989 edition of Le Mans 24 Hours. The C11 is well known today for being Michael Schumacher's Silver Arrow in which he have won the last race of the 1990 World Sportscar Championship.

The 1990 season of the World Sportscar Championship was marked by the complete domination of the C11 prototype which won all but one race. And that of course led Mercedes-Benz to winning the championship that year. The C11 however, did not follow the steps of its older sister by winning the 24 hours of Le Mans. In fact, Mercedes chose not to participate to the 1990 edition as it was not part of the WSC.
