For Sale: The Original Porsche 959 Prototype from 1986

The car you see above is one out of the four surviving Porsche 959 prototypes among a total of 29 that were made during the eighties for testing purposes before the car went on sale in limited numbers. The 959 was made between 1986 and 1989 and it has a body made out of fiberglass-reinforced Kevlar and aluminum. It was a technological masterpiece for its era.

As a refresher, the Porsche 959 is powered by a 2.8-liter rear-mounted flat-six producing 450 Hp. That allows it to hit 100 Km/h (62 mph) in less than four seconds and hit a top speed of 320 km/h (200 mph).

The car will be on sale at Barrett-Jackson for $225k but buyers have to aware that this prototype isn't actually certified for road use. More pictures of this iconic machine in the gallery below.

Pick of The Day: Porsche 959 Moby-Dick by Tuninger

Our creativity pick of the day goes to Tuninger for creating this awesome illustration of a modified version of our well loved Porsche 959 dubbed "Moby-Dick". Unfortunately Sahin Igor's drawing is only based on a rear quarter photo of the German supercar. So we won't be able to see how it looks from other angles. But we really appreciate the effort. And the result reminds us of the Porsche race cars from the 70's which is a good thing!
EVO pits Two of Your Favourite Supercars From the '80 against Each Other: Porsche 959 VS Ferrari 288 GTO

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Two unforgettable supercars from the early eighties. The Ferrari 288 GTO and the Porsche 959. Both cars marked their era and both are still amongst the most memorable creations of their brands. Both cars develop a healthy 400+ hp but the similarity between the two stops there. The 288 GTO, big sister of the Ferrari F40, is powered by a 2.8 L twin turbocharged V8 while the Porsche 959 remained faithful to a turbocharged flat six. There's a lot to say about these two.. but fro now i'm going to let EVO's Chris Harris do the rest of the talking for you. Enjoy this fantastic battle between two of Europe's greatest muscle cars.
