Pick of the day: 1960 Plymouth XNR

A very rare piece of history will be up for auction next month at the RM Auction in Monterey, California. The Plymouth XNR (named after its design chief Virgil Exner) is a concept car built by the Italian design house Corrozzeria Ghia in 1960. This little roadster is powered by a six-cylinder engine producing 250 Hp allowing it to hit a top speed of 150 mph. Unfortunately, this beauty never went into production and remains a one-off and now it has been restored to regain all its splendor for the joy of its next owner..

Among the previous owners of this magnificent concept, there's a large number of car collectors, mainly from the middle east. But maybe the most interesting owner was Iran's Shah. After that the car was discovered in a very bad state in a garage in Beirut, Lebanon by a car collector named Karim Edde. He eventually bought the car and kept moving it to different locations to protect it from destruction as the conflict in his country continued to grow. In 2008, the car was finally shipped to Canada where it has been restored and now it is ready to regain its new home.

So what we have here is a gorgeous Plymouth Roadster that was owned by a dictator and that has survived the civil war in Lebanon, a car with a lot of history. You can read the complete fascinating story of this concept at RM auction's site in the link below.

VIDEO: Volkswagen Polo R WRC Testing in Finland

The Polo R WRC car will be powered by a 1.6-liter turbo engine producing 300 Hp. Volkswagen's latest crowned participation in the world rally championship goes back to the eighties where the german manufacturer won the Group A rally championship in 1986 thanks to talent of swedish driver Kenneth Eriksson at the wheel of a 1.6-Liter Golf GTI. But we have to admit that the group B monsters were drawing all the attention at that time because of this. Anyway, the Polo R WRC looks good and you can find some high res pictures of it in the gallery below.
