During the last two centuries there were a few attempts to make reliable electric cars for daily use but they all disappeared due to the technical challenge, costs and the faster evolution of the petrol engine. But times have changed, and today, electric cars are here to stay. Today, electric cars are slowly replacing petrol engined cars in the big cities. They are also invading the motorsports world including racing, drag racing, drifting... Even tuning companies are now interested in customizing high performance electric cars like the Fisker Karma and the Tesla Roadster.

This electric BMW E30 M3 dubbed Rimac e-M3 is a perfect example of how electric cars are gaining popularity among racing fans. And we totally understand that judging by the massive amounts of torque that electric motors are able to generate. The Rimac e-M3 that you see above develops 600 Hp and 900 Nm of torque. That allows it to do the 0 to 100 Km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 280 Km/h (174 mph). That simply makes it the fastest accelerating EV in the world!

You can see the car in motion in the video after the jump and you can find out more information here about this very particular E30 BMW M3 as well as the full story written by Mate Rimac founder of Rimac Automobili him self.
